AWARDS
If you haven’t raced with us before, our awards are a little… practical.
After a recent chat with Pa about old-school sorghum boil downs, and Carter County’s deep ties to them - it just felt right. First place in each division takes home a racer-blend of local sorghum, honey, maple syrup, and molasses - pure sugar goodness. Podiums get Ma’s homemade molasses cookies. Top Dog earns a ridiculously oversized bone. Youngest Racer gets a special shirt to remember the adventure.
But Everybody gets to eat! After the race, we’ll have a hot, hearty meal waiting: beef and vegetable stew, a vegetarian vegetable soup, plus cornbread and salad. We’ll take care of the food - drinks are on you, with alcohol and soda available to help you rehydrate quickly.

FRIGID Conditions
The cold is part of what makes this race special, but it deserves respect. Come prepared, stay aware, and you’ll have a great day out there.
-
Layer up - you can always shed if you warm up. Microspikes and trekking poles are worth considering if you have them, and hand warmers are a nice bonus. Hydration bladders and hoses will likely freeze even if you blow them back, so consider a wide-mouth Nalgene stored upside down.
And of course, have ALL of the Mandatory Gear. -
If you’re bringing your best friend, be mindful of ice balls between the paw pads. Consider Musher’s Secret or booties.
-
Push when it makes sense, but keep something in the tank. Having a margin makes all the difference if things start going south for you.
