START/FINISH
∇ Beattyville Town Square
Address: Main ST at Locust ST, Beattyville KY
Map Location: LINK
Parking: Please park at either of these locations.
– Lee County Health Center Parking Lot
– Courthouse/Church Parking Lots
We’ve made check-in super simple.
- You can check-in starting at 6:00am Saturday morning.
- Before showing up, find your BIB# by checking out this TEAM ROSTER.
- We’ll have your team’s check-in bag arranged numerically. Just find your BIB#, unpack the contents, and digest the information. No need to officially “check-in” with us. Read the Race Instructions carefully – they’ll tell you what’s up. AND your maps will be in the bag.
* ProTip: It’s gonna be dark. We’ll have a few portalets for you to do your business. Bring a TA headlamp and plan your morning “routine” accordingly.
BIKES:
∇ No staging needed. You’ll be starting on your bikes from the S/F. Note the mandatory gear requirement. You’ll need to have both of these on before taking off:
– Rear mounted flashing red light
– Front mounted white light (in addition to a headlamp, bikes must have a front mounted light on after dark)
There’s several points along the course where you’ll drop your bike and proceed on foot. Make sure your bike is completely off of any roads (not in the way) before proceeding on foot. NO bikes will be allowed on foot trails – ROADS ONLY. This will be evident in the realworld.
When you drop your bikes at the TA you may leave anything you’d like with your bike. You’ll pick up your bike after the race, before 10PM.
Our General Disclaimer: While I had no worries about my bike getting stolen while setting the course (I’d just hide it off the road a little) – carry a bike-lock if you have concerns.
BOATS:
In order for this to be fair between rented vs. BYOB, you are not allowed to stage anything in your boats other than Paddles, PFDs, and Center Seat. That’s it – carry your glowsticks and anything else.
PERSONAL PADDLE GEAR ONLY:
If you’re just using YOUR OWN PFDs/Paddles/Seats (but rented a boat): Stage them in the designated area at the S/F and we’ll transport them to the paddle TA for you. Don’t stage anything else with your paddle gear (no water, food, glowsticks, clothes, etc.). We recommend you group and secure your team’s paddle gear together. We’ll bring your paddle gear back to the FINISH at the end of the race (or you can pick it up if you’re in a hurry).
PERSONAL BOATS / PADDLE GEAR: (see schedule above):
∇ Location – Fishcreek Boat Ramp. This is about 20 minutes from the S/F, so plan accordingly.
Map Location: LINK
- If you’re using YOUR OWN Boat: Stage them in the designated area along with your PFDs/Paddles/Seats only. Don’t stage anything else with your boats (no water, food, clothes, glow sticks, etc.). You’ll pick up your boats & paddle gear after the race by 9PM.
- If you’re just using YOUR OWN PFDs/Paddles/Seats (but rented a boat): Stage them at the S/F (see above).
- If you’re using RENTALS: It will already be staged for you (with paddles and PFDs) and you’ll pick those out during the race. The canoes do not have a center seat. Note that if you decide to use the provided paddles you must use the type provided with your boat (single-blade for canoes or double-blade for kayak). You are welcome to bring your personal kayak paddles to use in a rental canoe if you wish.
The paddle will be on slightly moving water and likely at dusk. Note the mandatory gear requirements. You’ll need to have both of these in place before putting in.
– Racers must have 1 glow stick attached to the PFD and 2 glow sticks attached to the boat (bow & stern). You’ll be carrying these in your pack (not staged with your paddle gear)
– Whistle must be easily accessible
WATER: There’s no official water-stations as part of this course. However, there’s numerous options to treat. There is no water at the S/F or the TAs, so plan accordingly.
* ProTip: Make sure you or your phone knows where you’re going before heading out. Reception is limited.
MAPS: Each team/solo will receive one set of course materials (maps, passport, instructions, clue sheet). Primary maps are 11×17 and 1:24,000 scale. All of these will be on waterproof paper.
BIBS: Each team/solo will receive one BIB#. Attach it to any teammate, doesn’t matter where, just make sure it’s visible. We’ll provide safety pins.
MANDATORY GEAR | RULES | ROSTER | RESULTS
DINNER: Thanks to Hop’s you’ll have a hot post race meal waiting on you!
Sweet potato curry, rice treats topped with peanut butter & chocolate, and white sweet potato & blackbean chili. Cash only. They’ll be around from 6pm-8:00pm, so don’t be late to the FINISH!
MANDATORY GEAR: Have everything on the Mandatory Gear list. We usually do a gear check of some sorts.
* ProTip: Bring your own camp chair for the afterparty. Townsquare is pretty, but also small.
If you have as much fun racing this as I did setting it, you’re in for a great day! Weather’s going to be optimal. 100+ like-minded folk playing in the woods. Doesn’t get much better.
Thanks again for Committing to Adventure, and we’ll see you at the race.
