The full-on Ramble!
Here’s what you need to know:
You’ll be circumnavigating Paintsville Lake on foot – that’ll take some effort.
- The Course: The core checkpoints will “guide” racers through the course over a shorter, often on trail, distance. Numerous other checkpoints will include more advanced, rugged, off-trail navigation. The area is hilly – for real.
- Minimum Distances: Day 1 ~26 miles | Day 2 ~ 18 miles
- Maximum Distances: undisclosed, you might be able to clear the full course
- Time Allotted: Day 1 = 14hours | Day 2 = 10hours
- Start/Finish Times: Day 1 = 7am – 9pm | Day 2 = 7am – 5pm
- Disciplines: hiking of course… but, Day 1 also requires a short ~200 yard swim to cross a finger of the lake! This PFD-assisted swim will occur during the back-half of the day. You’ll drop off your lifejacket at the Start – we’ll transport it to the designated swim entry – we’ll transport it back to you at the Finish.
- Midcamp – at the end of Day 1, you’ll reach Midcamp. A primitive campground where your camp gear will be waiting. Amenities: campsites included in registration, potable water, access to boiling water, access to electricity, toilets, hopefully shower houses, a nice supper is included in registration, bonfire and a bluegrass band!
- Gear Transport: To lighten your pack weight, you’ll handover a Gear Bin at the Start and we’ll transport it to Midcamp. One Gear Bin will be allowed per 2 people. So, solos & 2 person teams = 1 Bin | 3-4 person teams = 2 Bins. The required tote is: the 27-Gallon Black Heavy Duty Tote (the standard yellow top used in all these races). This is mandatory, to keep things fair and so we can stack and transport efficiently.
- Mandatory Gear: We’ll define what’s required soon. This will be carried at all times. We’ll keep it as light as possible.
If this sounds like fun, or at least semi-accomplishable, get yourself registered!
